Other Achievements

Samuel Zebulon Baker – elected to a second consecutive term on the Thomas Wolfe Society Board of Directors; joining the editorial review board of The Thomas Wolfe Review in May 2008

Rhea Combs – appointed to the Board of Directors of the nationally recognized New York-based youth media organization, Global Action Project.

Sheri Davis Faulkner – volunteered with an organization called Cool Girls, which provides young Black girls with basic skills and information they need to make a smooth transition from childhood to adolescence: the site school as Avondale Middle School.

Michelle Hite – participated in a program at Spelman College Museum called Beyond the Blackboard. Wrote five entries for the Oxford Encyclopedia of African American History 1896-Present: From the Age of Segregation to the 21 st Century.

Elizabeth Milewicz – Project Manager for the NEH-funded Expanded Online Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Database project (May 2006-May 2008); Organized workshop & training materials for DLF OAI Implementers' Workshop (25 August 2006) as part of the IMLS-funded The Distributed Library: OAI for Digital Library Aggregation project; 2007 CHT Dialogues committee (poster & program design); 2006-2007 ILA Student Council (Secretary-Treasurer)

Charles Ngugi – Appointed to the Editorial Board of Pluralities: Monash South African Journal of Social Sciences; Invited to showcase my scholarly work by Berkeley Electronic Press (Bepress) of the University of California at Berkeley in their Selected Works section

Veerle Poupeye - Invited to serve as member of advisory committee to art exhibition and book The Caribbean: Crossroads of the World (anticipated for 2009), organized by El Museo del Barrio, Queens Museum and Studio Museum in Harlem, NYC; Reappointed to National Gallery of Jamaica’s Exhibition and Acquisition Committees; Jury member of the 2007 National Biennial Exhibition, National Gallery of Jamaica; Jury member of the 2007 Under-Forty Artist of the Year Exhibition, The Mutual Gallery, Kingston, Jamaica; Appointed to Strategic Planning Committee of Edna Manley College. Continued as member of the Board of Directors, Edna Manley Foundation; 2006-2007 External Examiner for three courses in the Edna Manley College’s new degree programme (Issues in Representation (studio), Time-Based Media (studio) and Modern Western Art (art history)); Will serve as External Examiner for final exams of Painting and Sculpture students at the Edna Manley College in May 2007.
